Alternative Provision Nottinghamshire
Welcome to Fast Forward Music
At Fast Forward Music, we are proud to offer a creative and inclusive alternative provision tailored to support young people who may have struggled in mainstream education. Our core focus is on personal development, confidence-building, and providing students with the tools they need to progress both academically and personally. Through one-to-one mentoring, structured workshops, and a supportive team of experienced tutors, we aim to re-engage learners and help them rediscover a love for learning in a hands-on, industry-led environment.
Our weekly timetable is designed to balance vocational learning with essential skills development. Students take part in sessions covering Music Production, DJing, Media & Promotion, Hair, Makeup & Styling, and Health & Wellbeing. Alongside this, we deliver Functional Skills in English and Maths, and where appropriate, offer GCSE qualifications. Local authorities, schools, and parents can expect a consistent and structured environment that focuses not only on qualifications but also on behaviour, attendance, communication, and preparing students for life beyond education. Whether joining our 12-week re-engagement programme or committing to a full-year RSL Diploma pathway, Fast Forward Music ensures every learner has a chance to thrive and move forward with confidence.

What is the problem?
- Nationally, there are 6 permanent exclusions per 10,000 pupils.
- In the East Midlands, over 2,500 students were permanently excluded in the last year alone.
- The rate of exclusions has risen from 1.83% in 2019 to 3.85% in 2023 in the East Midlands.
- Nottingham ranks fifth in the UK for the highest rates of exclusions and suspensions.
The primary reasons for exclusions in the East Midlands include:
- Persistent disruption, accounting for 33% of exclusions.
- Physical assaults on other pupils, responsible for 16%.
- Verbal assaults on adults, making up 12%.
Our goal is to reduce these numbers by working towards reintroduction of students after being at our provision.
What is our solution?
- Innovative Creative Industry Education Programs: Integrating music and creativity into the curriculum to engage excluded students more effectively.
- Creative Learning Opportunities: Offering alternative learning methods to traditional classroom settings, which helps reduce disruptive behavior.
- Building Engagement and Behaviour: Using music as a tool to improve student engagement and behaviour, directly tackling the primary reasons for exclusions such as disruptions and verbal assaults.
- RSL-accredited courses that not only educate but acredit students building confidence and knowledge to the next stage of their lives.
- Re-introduction: when possible our goal is to re-introduce students to mainstream education.
Personal Development
Personal development is at the heart of everything we do at Fast Forward Music. Through tailored sessions in confidence building, communication, CV writing, interview preparation, and teamwork, students are supported to grow both personally and professionally. We provide a safe, supportive space where learners can reflect on their goals, track progress through journals, and develop the life skills needed for further education, employment, or independent living. Our approach ensures every student leaves more confident, capable, and ready for their next step.
Maths & English
At Fast Forward Music, we offer Functional Skills Maths and English at Entry Levels 1–3 and Level 1 & 2, alongside GCSE options. Delivered by our experienced and qualified tutors, these sessions are designed to build confidence, strengthen core skills, and ensure every student meets the essential academic requirements for further education, apprenticeships, or employment.
More Than Alternative Education
Every young person deserves the chance to grow, learn, and find their path—regardless of their background, behaviour, or previous experience in education. At Fast Forward Music, we believe that potential exists in every student, and it’s our role to unlock it. Through creative expression, one-to-one support, and a personalised approach to learning, we provide an environment where students feel valued and capable. We don’t just offer an alternative; we offer more—more support, more opportunity, and more belief in each individual’s future.
Student Benefit
Each week, students benefit from a blend of industry-led workshops, practical creative sessions, and dedicated personal growth time. A core feature of our offer is our one-to-one mentoring, where students work closely with experienced tutors who provide tailored guidance, support with personal challenges, and help set and review individual goals.
These regular mentoring sessions allow students to reflect on their progress, build trust with staff, and gain the confidence needed to navigate both education and life beyond the classroom. Whether it’s developing resilience, improving emotional regulation, or building communication and teamwork skills, our personalised approach ensures each learner feels heard, supported, and empowered to move forward. The combination of structured creative learning and consistent mentorship creates a powerful foundation for long-term growth and success.
